Very Good Books for 7 & 8 years old. He loves the action and the characters in each book and also learns something new. My grandson loves these books. I started him on book #1 and now he is on Book #5 Night of the Ninjas.
I came on to write an honest review because there are so many that praise this series and I am glad to see there are people who realize how important correct grammar and syntax are in children's literature. What in the world were the editor and author thinking. They should be ashamed. I am a first grade teacher and I beg you to NOT get any of these books. I really thought I was alone due to the bizarre popularity of these books. One of the many strategies I teach my students to use while spelling and writing is to ask themselves, "Does it look right." because so much of what is taught is reinforced by exposure and experience. They are a terrible example for children learning to write. With the MTH books being such poor examples of grammar, sentence structure, and story development, what these children are learning (or un-learning) is detrimental.
SO MUCH FUN TO SEE HIM EXPRESS HIMSELF AND TO SEE HIS EXCITEMENT WHEN HE TELLS ME WHAT JACK AND ANNIE ARE DOING. I HAVE HIM WRITE A SHORT "REVIEW" FOR ME BEFORE I GIVE HIM THE NEXT BOXED SET. MY FIRST GRADE GRANDSON LOVES READING THE CHAPTERS IN THIS SERIES. HE IS ALSO LEARNING ABOUT PLACES AND THINGS HE'S NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO.
Now I have to order more of the series. Ordered, got the books within 4 days, and my 8yr old grandson has read all 8 books in less than a month.
I would recommend these books to everyone. They are also very educational. My 6 year old son and I love to read these books together. They are suspenseful, so they keep his attention.
